Initial Reason for Being

Hi there everyone! I had been toying around of the idea for creating a blog for some time now, it only took a class assignment to get me to do so! For the next few months this blog's purpose will be to document my journey in studying a portion of Islamic culture through a field-study at a local Mosque. In the future the blog will likely expand and be used as an outlet for my thoughts as I travel around the world as well as philosophical thoughts if all goes well. As for my current project, I'm seeking to inform people in my community on Islam, specifically the doctrines and practices which effect the daily lives of its adherents. I will be focusing on a single mosque in my study due to time constraints. One main question is guiding my journey, and that is the question of the "Power of Faith" and how it manifests itself in Islamic belief. In addition to this, I will also probe the burning question of how Islam affects the moral system and daily lives of those who follow it. As of writing this opening post, I have no relationship with Islam in any way, for me it has always been a distant religion which didn't have much exposure in my little corner of the world. Through this project I seek to destroy my boundaries and throw myself into something I have never experienced before.
